The Planning and Visual Education Partnership (PAVE) held its 19th Annual Gala Wednesday, Dec. 2, in New York City. PAVE is an educational partnership for students in the retail environments industry and was founded to foster development in merchandising and retail design and planning. The Gala benefits PAVE’s educational programs and showcases select student work. The Gala also serves as an awards ceremony for student and industry talent. In total, the Gala collected $275,000 in funding to support design education.

The event attracted 850 influential retailers, designers and industry suppliers such as Macy’s/Bloomingdale’s, Vera Bradley, Saks Fifth Ave., Chute Gerdeman, Bernstein Display, Van Stry, FRCH Design Worldwide, and Goldsmiths. Nine students with winning projects in the Student Design Competition and four educators attended through seats donated by industry companies.

The PAVE Gala 19th Edition artwork created by Wests Design Consultants inspired the 2015 student gallery project. Students were challenged to create original pieces arranging geometric shapes of different sizes and materials provided by Duggal. Participating schools in the project were New York’s Fashion Institute of Technology and LIM

During the awards segment, PAVE recognized the winners of the 21st annual Student Design Competition, sponsored by The Kroger Co., awarding $25,500 in grants to students and schools. First place winners include Neesha Reddivari from the University of Cincinnati (Store Design Category) and Aliene Chidester from the University of Cincinnati (Visual Merchandising Category). This year’s winners faced a competitive field of more than 425 entries, including 325 plus in the Store Design Category.

Other awards presented at the gala included PAVE’s Rising Star Award, which was granted to Elizabeth Price of FRCH Design Worldwide.

The 2015 gala was co-chaired by PAVE Gala Vice President Linda Lombardi, Godiva, and PAVE Director Shane Danos.
