Position Overview:

Store Designer - Store Design & Construction

Apply multiple existing design concepts/criteria to individual store locations via a schematic design inclusive of both a plan layout and storefront elevation. Manage each store project from real estate packet through the start of construction. Assist Purchasing and Construction teams to resolve any issues that may arise to achieve a positive solution that is both brand correct and in Express’ best interest. Create and/or comment on necessary documentation needed to facilitate tenant fit-outs. Ability to simultaneously lead and/or assist in multiple store projects while managing any additional a-typical department requests.

Essential Tasks

Design, manage, assist and document multiple stores per Project Schedule from Real Estate packet through store opening. Designing requires the ability to space plan appropriately defining, documenting, and resolving any site-specific, a-typical design or existing site elements. Managing each project requires the review of LL and site survey information and consulting with the Project Architect for code requirements to ensure the store’s overall compliance; reviewing DD drawing set for design intent; reviewing LL and BD comment summaries to resolve Express’ design, cost and schedule benefit. Assisting requires working with both internal and external partners to ensure others maintain EXPRESS standards. Documenting requires one to possess the skills necessary to create sketches, Schematic Designs, Design Development sets, etc. as required.

Collaborate with ‘Visual’ and ‘Operations’ teams and resolve design-related issues resulting from fixturing and back-of-house efficiencies.

Prepare presentation drawings to communicate design intent to Express, LLs, city review boards, etc.

Complete shop-drawing reviews as it relates to each individual store, including but not limited to Signage, Metal, and Fixture shops.

​Collaborate with CMs and GCs and resolve design-related issues or significant site changes/field conditions that occur during construction.

Qualifications:

Essential Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor's Degree

  • Experience (years) in a related field: 3-5 as an Interior Designer, Store Designer within a specialty retail organization, Architecture, and/or design firm

  • Strong space planning skills

  • Strong proficiency in AutoCAD, Adobe Acrobat PDF Writer, and Adobe Photoshop

  • Basic proficiency in SketchUp and Adobe Creative Suite

  • Working knowledge of the retail store design through construction process or similar

Preferred Qualifications (skills and abilities)

  • A degree in Interior Design or Architecture preferred

  • Ability to follow established EXPRESS policies and procedures

  • Ability to effectively manage both priorities and time

  • Ability to be self-motivated, self-sufficient, process-oriented, and hands-on

  • Ability to simultaneously handle multiple projects

  • Ability to be highly organized

  • Skilled oral and written communication

  • Skilled relationship management at all levels (collaboration and communication)

  • Skilled proficiency on FTP site platforms (Lucernex preferred)

  • Skilled proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project)

Travel Requirements:
  • 20 - 30 domestic trips per year
